INFORMATION ABOUT CHINCH BUGS

St. Augustine grass is the most commonly used lawn grass because of its ability to thrive in a variety of soil types. At Horizon Pest we know how to help you maintain the perfect lawn, but from time to time even the best, most well manicured lawns may have what appear to be dead lawn spots appear. Though there are many reasons for this dead lawn appearance, a common cause is the chinch bug. Our experienced staff knows how to spot and treat chinch bug infestations.

The best defense against chinch bug invasions is a regular Lawn and Garden Preventative Treatment plan that works to keep chinch bug populations from taking over your lawn. You are at particular risk if neighboring yards are currently infested. Be sure to contact Horizon Pest today for more information or a Free Consultation.

INFORMATION ABOUT FIRE ANTS

Most of the Southern U.S. from Florida to Texas must deal with black or red fire ants. These ants range from 1/8 to 1/4 inch in length and are well known for their aggressive nature and painful sting.

Fire Ants

Fire ants build nests that often appear as dome-shaped mounds of soil, though in very sandy soil the mounds are sometimes flat and less visible. Disturbing the nest of a fire ant colony will cause large numbers of fire ants to run out of the mound to attack the intruder. If stung, a pustule will appear on the bite mark and very intense itching may persist for up to 10 days. The sting of a fire ant can cause severe allergic reactions in some people.

It is best to take preventative measures to help avoid the creation of red fire ant colonies in your lawn and garden. Horizon Pest offers an Annual Fire Ant Control service in addition to other treatment options.
